Gruff were asked to design and fabricate a set of steps between a master bedroom and the neighbouring en-suite. While only a small element, the steps exist as a threshold between two rooms with differing functions and floor finishes. The change of level warranted only three steps and the design had to be practical, cost efficient but also beautifully made.
The stair, constructed with only 5 elements, was designed and fabricated off-site. Utilising our in-house CNC machine, vertical structural elements were been routed from strong walnut-faced plywood sheets. An array of smooth and shallow bumps were milled into the solid walnut treads that sit on top. This pattern offering a light massage to the underside of your feet while also allowing any excess water to drain off before entering the bedroom.
