Over a period of 15 years Rhys has gained experience with a range of award-winning practices. Working as a part 2 at Wilkinson Eyre Architects, an Architect at Metropolitan Workshop and as a Senior Architect at Matthew Springett Associates, he has gained a variety of knowledge working on commercial, residential, master-planning, academic and public schemes, ranging in project values and complexities.
Rhys graduated with distinction from the The Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, having completed his BSc, Diploma and professional qualifications there. He became a fully qualified architect in 2006 and established Gruff in February 2010.
Simultaneously to working in practice, Rhys is also a teaching fellow at the prestigious Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL, where he has been tutoring for the last 14 years. He has achieved a variety of successes for his students, including a number of nominations and winners of the RIBA Presidents Medal Awards, including the highly competitive Bronze Medal, as well as a selection of technical and drawing prizes.
Gruff is formed of a dynamic team of architects, designers and creatives. A close-knit practice, with a wide range of experience and skills, our collective understanding of the built environment creates unique and thoughtful proposals.
